With the launch of this great new resource, I wanted to take the time to say hello. I also want to say that I am truly honored and excited to be a part of InsideRIA. I am also excited to see the role it will play in assisting you in your development. I believe that this will have a key role in the evangelism of rich technologies like Adobe AIR.
First, I want to give you a bit of background on me. I serve as a developer at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I work not only on the Internet identity of Georgia Tech's Savannah campus, but I develop applications that are used across the Savannah campus. In addition to these projects, I also work with professors to integrate new web technologies such as Adobe AIR as tools in research projects. My background covers several technologies. In addition to Adobe AIR, I have extensive experience with Flex, Flash, ColdFusion, and PHP. I also blog regularly at my personal blog, davidtucker.net.
To start off my posts on this blog, I have a question. What technology gets you excited? I can honestly say that Adobe AIR has me more excited than any technology has in quite a while. The line is growing more blurry by the day between desktop applications and web applications, and I think that it is improving the overall quality of each. Desktop applications are now embracing technologies that enable developers to build robust products at a rapid pace. Web developers have now entered this scene because of technologies like Adobe AIR.
How do you fit in? Over the next weeks and months I will be dissecting the technologies that make this possible. I hope that you will make this blog a truly interactive one by adding your feedback whenever you feel that you have an idea. Also, I hope that this will aid you in creating the next generation of Internet-enabled applications: the ones that will exist in and out of the browser.
