A few days ago I mentioned that a new release from the Adobe Spry was on the way, and today it landed. Version 1.6.1 is branded as an AIR update, and many of the updates are directly in relation to support for running with AIR, but some pretty darn cool features were added to this release as well. This week I'm going to discuss these changes and show some examples.

This platform released today provides an effective solution for slaying one dragon, but a much scarier dragon lurks atop the mountain I call form factor. The danger is in thinking that we have a platform for developing universal experiences, when the truth is, that we have a platform that provides us with a universal runtime to build experiences upon. Just because your code is cross-platform, doesn't mean that your experience is.

Congratulations to both the Flex team and AIR team for their hard work over the past few years. Flex has undergone many personalities over the past 5 years, reinventing itself along the way. Those of you who remember Royale and...

Anatomy of an Enterprise Flex RIA Part 6: The Data Project Maven Build
In the last installment we looked at the Maven build lifecycle and where the tests are located in our sample application. Join us every Monday for another step in the development process.

I'm a bit late in reporting this, but the Spry team blogged about their upcoming 1.7 release of Spry. I'm a huge fan of this Ajax framework, and it looks like some exciting new features are on the way.

The word is out, Adobe is taking the gang of evangelists, a few other AIR hackers and yours truly across the pond to Europe. We're going to be hitting 12 cities from Madrid to Stockholm this spring and summer. Each event will cover everything from basic AIR development in Flex, Flash and Ajax to advanced topics and cool demos. Like the North American tour I'm sure there will be food and drink provided.

In this series of articles I will be looking at why RIA developers should be interested in Mozilla. This is an important topic, especially if you're one of those wise and pragmatic developers who likes to pick the right tool for the job, which we all are right? Learning about the breadth of the technologies that Mozilla's projects cover can potentially save you a lot of work for your next project!
