For those of us who work with RIA's, Acrobat.com is finally a great example of what we know is possible. Complete platform integration across multiple online services to deliver a fully-functional and engaging experience for the end user - both through the browser and on the desktop.
If you haven't yet checked out Acrobat.com - here is the rundown. The site combines previously unconnected services such as Buzzword (Adobe's online word processor), Share (Adobe's file sharing service), and Brio (the new version of Adobe Connect - Adobe's online meeting and presentation service) with Acrobat and online PDF generation. In addition to the site, an AIR Application also exists for Acrobat.com that provides a similar experience to the site, but with some additional features.
The big question with a site like this is scalability and availability. For example, if you go and check out the 'health' page for Acrobat.com several services are limited due to high traffic. This is a limitation that users will have to get used to - because all online services will have times of less than stellar performance (remember the S3/EC2 Outage?).
This also brings us another step closer to seeing the 'Software as a Service' strategy realized for Adobe. After the success of Photoshop Express - this promises to be the next iteration in moving the entire creative suite to the browser. Exciting times to be an RIA developer.
