Today Adobe released SwitchBoard at Adobe Labs. SwitchBoard is a way to connect AIR with the Creative Suite. SwitchBoard comes in two pieces: the SDK for developers who want to develop AIR applications that leverage the Creative Suite and the SwitchBoard installer itself which enables AIR applications to talk to CS applications. This opens up many new options for AIR developers.

How does it work? SwitchBoard enables AIR to access the ExtendScript DOMs for the Creative Suite applications as well as launching target applications for a file. This means that you can open an image file in Photoshop directly from AIR. It also means that you can script complex processes for any creative suite application and then execute those scripts from within AIR.

The SDK download for SwitchBoard includes several sample applications that integrate AIR with CS applications.
