Thermo Screenshots

Ted just posted some screenshots for Thermo. Thermo is a highly anticipated tool that will allow designers to create UI designs much like they would in Fireworks then output Flex apps and MXML. The promise that designers and developers to go back and forth in between Thermo and Flex in a nice seamless workflow.

Here are some of the planned features for Thermo:

* Use drawing tools to create original graphics, wireframe an application design, or manipulate artwork imported from Adobe Creative Suite tools.
* Turn artwork from Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Fireworks directly into functional components that use the original artwork as a “skin”.

* Define and wire up interactive behavior, such as what to do when a user clicks on something, without having to write code.

* Easily design UIs that work with dynamic data, such as a list of contacts or product information, without having access to the actual data source. Design-time sample data can be used as a realistic placeholder when laying out an application, testing interactivity, and choreographing motion.

I don't want to steal Ted's thunder so check out the Thermo screenshots and consider coming out to MAX if you're interested in learning more.

I'm curious about what you think of tool like this. Is it going to work? Is it going to be powerful enough for designers? Are AS3 developers going to be happy with the code it produces? Let's discuss.

The tool looks cool, I'm not going to deny it, but is it going to be like a Dreamweaver. Is it going to make amateur apps all over the place.

I am a developer and there is nothing better then looking at the code directly to really get a gist of what is going on. If this tool spits out code left right and center, then it wont take off. There is nothing worse then looking at code that isn't neat and all over the place.

It has some cool features and will speed up the development time for creating the user interface, but saying that, if the code it spits out is so unreadable and all over the place the time made up putting it together in thermo will be made up in developing to put the code right.

Now that I have the negatives out of the way. I saw a preview of this in action at MAX 2007. They were showing the highlights of it. It is pretty impressive, and it will speed up the design time by 3 fold. Also being able to draw components with the drawing tool, that along is a fantastic feature.

But really at the end of the day you can only speculate on how well it will do!

Seems to me to be Adobe's interpretation of Interface Builder for OS X. Great Idea.
