Bruce Eckel on Desktop Java
Technologies: JavaFX, Flex, AIRBruce gives a rundown of the history of UI in Java and how it applies to the current JavaFX situation. Bruce states that the UI issues of the past are the primary reason people are not jumping to learn more about JavaFX:
"Basically, UI programming in Java has always been an afterthought, reluctantly accomodated but never really supported. It's no wonder that people are taking a wait-and-see attitude about Java FX."
It will certainly be interesting to see if JavaFX can overcome this stereotype - or if developers will forgo it for applications that have a Flex frontend and a Java backend (as Bruce suggests).

Facebook Application Development
Hi David. I didn't see your email address on the site here or I'd mail you instead. :) I'm one of the engineers working on JavaFX and avid Java.net blogger (and a GaTech grad from 97). We are prepping our first preview release of the SDK to go out at the end of this month. I'd love a chance to sit down and discuss a few industry trends with you. Could you email me at joshua@marinacci.org? Will you be at OSCON next week?
I really wish I could be at OSCON this year, but I won't be able to make it. I followed up with you via email.
