Learning a new technology is something that developers need to continue to do in order to stay competitive and marketable in this ever changing world of Internet technologies. Personally, I tend to learn the fastest through documentation and sample code but I am curious if I am in the minority with my practices. So the question is, "What resources are most helpful in learning a new technology?" To vote on this question please visit the official poll page here.

Hi Rich,
maybe it would be more interesting to get people to order these options? Let me start: Video tutorials suck.
And coming from open source, I want to add an option: looking qt the source!

@Rich - I disagree about video tutorials. Sure, later on - once you are past the beginner level of whatever it is you are trying to learn - video tutorials don't really help.

I find that mostly... demos with provided source are largely useful.

Above all, I have to say that I think there is never a single best avenue to learning something. Ultimately, I think it depends on the source of the learning material, and how well communicated and supported that material is.

The best way to learn is to get ur hands dirty in that technology.. either by taking up some projects or assigning a project to self.

Once on the project, the learning could be a mix of reading documentation and/or blogs, help from coworkers, books etc.. I think a combination of all these tools add up to a good learning material.
