My first (introductory) post for InsideRIA

Thought I should write a bit of an introduction to myself and say hi to everyone. As you can see, my name is Dale and I'm grateful to Rich and InsideRIA for inviting me to be a guest blogger here.

My focus is mobile, and in particular Flash technology on mobile devices. In 2005 I started a company here in my hometown of Brisbane Australia, called Moket (www.moket.com). It was born out of a web-dev studio I was running at the time, and it was a way for my long-time obsession with Flash to take a new turn away from the browser. Moket is involved with many aspects of the mobile ecosystem, but designs and develops Flash mobile content and applications as part of it's core services. We do this for clients as well as for ourselves, and have many Flash mobile games on sale now through various channels, including Nokia Download.

I'm an Adobe Community Expert (Mobile), Adobe Certified Instructor (Mobile), Adobe Ambassador and Forum Nokia Champion ... which all just means that I get to hear a lot about things that are happening behind the scenes and can help these various organisations get the message out on what their doing.

It's fair to say I've been around the Flash mobile scene for a while, speaking at conferences and doing a lot of Flash Lite training and online seminars. And even though Flash for mobile has not been the instant success that many believe it should have (or could have) been, we've been in it for the long haul and are glad to see the advances that are being made at the moment. Particularly of interest to us, and of course to probably most readers of InsideRIA, is the coming of Flash Player 10 and AIR to the mobile platform that's expected sometime in late 2009 / early 2010.

Until more of that becomes public, you may still wonder what people really are doing with Flash on devices. Well, I hope that the posts I make here (which will mirror some content I write for my pown blog at www.dalerankine.com) will give you some insight into that, even if it's not the AS3-lovin' goodness you deal with more regularly :)

Anyway, again it's great to be here and looking forward to interacting with as many of you as I can.
