FEATURED: Adobe to Release RTMP Specification
Technologies: AllThis week Adobe announced that they will be open-sourcing the RTMP specification. This specification is what is used for video streams with Adobe's Flash Media Server as well as for data transfer with Adobe's LiveCycle Data Services. This means that Adobe has released yet another specification as a part of the Open Screen Project.
This release opens the door for new media servers that will be able to implement the RTMP specification (in the same way as the Flash Media Server). It will be interesting to see how long before other Flash media servers like Red5 and Wowza implement RTMP.
While this release covers quite a bit, it does not include Adobe's specification for protected streams.

Google Ajax API Playground
Technologies: AjaxAjaxian posted about the Google Ajax API Playground this week. It provides an easy to use interface for working with samples for eight of the Google JavaScript API's. The developer behind the API Playground, Ben Lisbakken, stated:
The AJAX API Playground is currently loaded with over 170 samples for 8 Google JavaScript APIs (Maps, Search, Feeds, Calendar, Visualization, Language, Blogger, Libraries and Earth) that you can edit and run to help you explore what our APIs have to offer. There are also Save and Export features. The save feature allows you to hold onto an edited sample so you can continue working on it later while export lets you modify a sample and export the code to a sticky URL where it will run by itself.
The Google AJAX API Playground is available to try today.

P2P Powers CNN's Inauguration Coverage
Technologies: Flash PlayerThis week's inauguration was one of the most watched online events in history, and CNN utilized the Octoshape plug-in (for the Flash Player) to utilize P2P in their online stream. This represents a major shift in realtime media streaming - with the client sharing the bandwidth burden and allowing the event to reach more people with less network infrastructure.
While the inauguration utilized Octoshape, Adobe's P2P technology for the Flash Player, codenamed Stratus, is currently in Beta on Adobe Labs. It is clear that P2P will be a major force in realtime streaming over the next year.
