It appears that the InsideRIA audience is very Flex centric when it comes to developing Flash content as over 40% of the respondents chose Flex Builder 3 as their tool of choice for creating SWF. Flash Develop came in at second place with over 18% followed by Flash CS4 and Flash CS3. To see the full results of this poll, please click here.

FDT came in ahead of Flash CS3 with 7.9%
The problem is, the question was not "What IDE do you use to create SWFs", the question was "What IDE do you use to create Flash content?" So the data would prove to be somewhat misleading, through no fault of your own, mostly because the word "Flash" can mean many different things. Many took it to mean "content created solely with the Flash API, and not Flex" -- which means that, in many cases, both Flash Professional and Flex Builder would be used, which users did not have the option of selecting. And a few of the choices were confusing, such as "Flex SDK," which is not an IDE -- does this mean using the Flex SDK with tools not mentioned?
Even though this is an "informal" poll, the lack of multiple selections in the poll, and the ambiguity of the question, means the results cannot be accurate. I'll admit, it was a tricky question to pose, what with the definitions of the technology and names of the IDEs themselves constantly shifting. So don't take this as undue criticism, I just don't want to see this poll misinterpreted by some amateur tech pundit down the road.
