I've joined the growing number of people with this certification.
Candidates are allowed 85 minutes to answer 50 questions when they take the exam. I was given the orientation, answered a short quiz, took the test, reviewed my answers, was given a printed exam report and was out the door in under 15 minutes. Guess it helps to know your stuff!
I realized how important certification was when I needed help with PayPal integration for my new book, entitled "Flex Data Services, Eclipse and Hibernate." I needed to personalize the PDF copies of the book for each customer when they purchase online. The information is available from the PayPal transaction, but PayPal's documentation is truly horrible. I realized that the quickest way for me to get the job done would be to work with a PayPal Certified Developer. I found a suitable consultant and put her to work on my project in under an hour. The next day we had a working prototype.
As a customer, I expected that a certified person would be able to converse with me about options and provide an overview of how to approach the project, and this is exactly what I found. By relying on the certified PayPal consultant's expertise, I went from problem statement to having viable solution options in one afternoon. For me, that was the value of certification as a customer.
I decided to take the lesson to heart and become Adobe certified myself. As a full-service contractor, I hope that my prospective customers see certification in the same way.
... oh, yes, buy the book!

Last week I saw a number of people new to Flex jointly decide on a newsgroup that they were going to watch the "Learn Flex in a Week" videos and then take the test. I apologize if this blog posting gave the impression that the certification test was trivial. It is not. A newcomer to Flex should not expect that simply by watching some videos and attempting to work through the examples that they would have have developed the knowledge and experience necessary to obtain this certification.
From Adobe's web site: "The Adobe Flex 3 with AIR Exam is based upon the most critical job activities that a Flex developer performs. The skills and knowledge certified by this examination represent a professional level of expertise for a certified individual."
I have worked with Flex and AIR since they were alpha software, and continue to use the technology today. Most of my project involve Flex data services and Java EE. The consensus is that an experienced programmer should work with Flex intensively for at least a year before attempting to get certified. I agree that this would be suitable preparation.

Congratulations!! I am studying right now for the same exam. The criteria for the test seems somewhat vast but I am hoping it will not be too difficult. Care to share any tips?
I passed the Sun JCP 1.5 a few years back. Do you have any experience with this exam? Did you find the difficulty levels comparable?
You have to sign an NDA before taking the test. I have not examined it very closely, so I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say. Study hard, it can't hurt!

Don't kid yourself Mike. Reading through 50 sets of questions and answers in under 15 minutes is a challenge in itself. You make the exam sound too easy.
Is the exam easy? That depends on how well you know the material and how careful you are on the tricky questions. But don't feel bad if it takes you closer to an hour. Give yourself about 1 minute per question.
I do agree with you though regarding the value of a certified resource. Having the extra credentials is like ending a sentence with an exclamation point. Kudos, and welcome to the club.

Having a certification has really helped many people I know. In my last employment as a system analyst the company was hiring coldfusion developers for the very first time. I guess having a certification helped them select me - I am sure there was no shortage of talented coldfusion devs in India even then.
Last year I started a group on linked where only certfied professionals can join. Joining process requires sending a certification verification report to group admins. So far over 200 certified pros have joined the group called Adobe Certified Community.
And I'd like to invite you to join this group. There are many talented & certified graphic artists, animators and ria developers in the group.

May be not the best place to ask. Mike do u have any idea, when did the adobe site allows you to login in community expert page by creating new login. I passed my examination, but it is not authenticating me.

It takes at least two working days after you pass the test for the Adobe certification site to accept your login.

I am interested in doing the Adobe flex 3 certification. I have an experience of working on flex for the last 3 months. I have touched up on Cairngorm framework as well.
Can u please guide me as to what should i target and study in the upcoming weeks, so as to prepare myself for this test. i have tried a few links on the web but nothing seems pretty focussed on the goal of certification.
BTW i have already done SCJP certification, so i know how online certifications are held.
