A summary for Flash 10.1, Flash Mobile, Flash on iPhone, Air Mobile
Here is a summary for Flash Mobile support and development that I put together from various sources:
Flash 10.1: supports mobile features and capabilities. Runs both AS3 and AS2 code. Flash 10.1 will be a browser plugin.
Flash 10.1 & Mobile Platforms: it will soon supports Symbian, Android, Palm, Maemo. No infos at the moment about Sony Ericsson, LG, Samsung, Motorola.
Palm and WinMo support will be available by the end of the year and then Symbian and Android in the first half of 2010.
Flash on iPhone: development will be done only in CS5 on AS3. There will be a Beta program later in the year.
Flex Mobile framework: no timeline yet, Adobe is working on it. Too early to get information.
AIR on Mobile: no timeline yet. Beta program later on (in 2010). Supports for the Android mobile platform first. Distribution will be via OTA and via embedded by OEM. Adobe is looking to keep a consistency between desktop and mobile where the installer (.air) will be used. The strategy is similar to the Distributable Player for Flash Lite via OTA with some differences. Details are not yet available.
Flash Lite 4.0: is for low end/mass market mobile phones embedded by OEM for browsing/stanadlone/wallpaper/screensaver content, Flash Lite current status. It will have support for AS3 and AS2.

Can you provide any update on the situation for the Flash Lite 3.1 distributable? Is it still in beta?
Seems like Flash Lite 4 is a browser only implementation, do you have info from Adobe that indicates it will be for other types of content as well?
I am hopeful (but skeptical) that the 10.1 flash player will not drain mobile phones at an unacceptable rate.
@Hayden
I have been asking myself the same question. Adobe should be doing a better job on explaining this matter.
I have been getting different information from difference sources regarding the mobile runtimes roadmap.
I have posted a question on the Adobe foruns, hopefully someone with inside information will reply soon.

Dave Turner, at MAX in the keynote Adobe had data on battery life for Flash Player 10 versus 10.1 showing the mass improvement. They had different examples of just playing Flash video for x number of hours, or just playing high vector animation for y number of hours, etc. I don't remember offhand what those numbers were, (you can look it up in the keynote if you want) but I remember that it wasn't half bad.
Ciao,
I had answer some questions but it did not published! Sorry!
@Hayden, there are no infos on FL3.1 distributable player at the moment. I will ask.
Flash Lite 4 implementation will follow Flash Lite as previous versions. OEM will choose how to implement it (standalone, browser, wallpaper, screensaver and so on...)
@Dave and Mattew, it's very difficult to do those measurements since each device is different (CPU/memory/hardware/OS), so I would not look it that way. In any case in mobile, development must take into account performance for specific device and platforms. There is no way out of this!

A quick google search later and here's a blog posting with an image of the keynote slide that I was talking about on battery life:
http://www.precentral.net/flash-demoed-live-pre-adobe-max-developer-conference
So Adobe is estimating:
- 3.4 hours for full-screen video
- 6.5 hours for animation in active state
- 14.5 hours for animation when the mobile device is in low power mode
However, I think Kevin Lynch also either had a slide or mentioned how battery life had improved since testing Flash Player 10.0 on mobile to 10.1. Either way, looks like the Flash Player team has done some good work in terms of power consumption and battery life.
Ciao Matthew,
thanks for the links. Interesting figures, but I would not look at the numbers but rather to the improvements. As you might know many of these smarthphones can run multiple apps at the same time and as usual it's up to the developer to keep content optimized.

Ciao,
I would like to invite anyone to join the Boston Adobe Mobile and Devices User Group for an eSeminar on November 13th at 12 PM EST on the topics mentioned above.
