The Latest

I typically don't post about other people's posts, but I felt it necessary in this case. Mike Chambers has compiled a ton of useful information on Flex 4/Gumbo. It's definitely worth checking out.
Yesterday Microsoft released IE 8 Beta 2. It's likely the most anticipated release of the browser to date, for developers anyway. This is because they've done a lot to support CSS 2.1 and HTML 5 standards, which is everyone agrees is a good thing. It might not be perfect yet but they seem to be making good progress.

I recently had the chance to chat with JavaFX team members Josh Marinacci and Jacob Lehrbaum on a conference call. I had the chance to ask them all of the questions that you guys submitted here on the site.

The interview is 25 minutes and the guys cover everything from the basics of JavaFX to future plans for the platform.

Windowing in Flex - FlexMDI
A couple of my co-workers at Universal Mind started a project a while back called FlexMDI. Ben Clinkinbeard and Brian Holmes started this project after meeting at 360 Flex - Seattle last August. Also on the project is Brendan Meutzner.
Ted Patrick just posted a screencast from Mark Anders where he gives a great overview of the roadmap for Flex 4 aka Gumbo , Flash Player 10, Degrafa and Thermo at 360 Flex.
Dave Johnson, Alexei White and I have finally completed our video training series on Ajax development for high performance and large scale Ajax UIs. We took the book, Enterprise Ajax, we wrote last year and then recorded just over 8hrs worth of Ajax training. Hopefully it's a bit easier for folks to swallow than the 500 page book;-)

This week saw a Flex refresh, JavaScript's jump to light speed, a comment battle on Flex and Silverlight, a look at Project Nile, and some great tips on getting started with Silverlight.

Google announced 2 new ways to make your apps location aware yesterday. One's a web service that any web can take advantage the second is built into Google Gears, and runs on the mobile version of this plugin.
Back in June, Google released the Google Earth API, which is a javascript-enabled browser plugin version of Google Earth. I finally got a chance to explore the Google Earth API, and here's the result.
Back in July, the d'bug blog posted a great article up about 5 lessons every web developer should learn.

Good wisdom for those of us (read: most of us) who are predisposed to let our egos run wild.
