Late this week it was announced that eBay desktop reached 1 million downloads. Mike Potter from Adobe wrote a great summary of the achievement and it's significanceon his blog. Ryan Stewart also has a great post up, including an interivew with Alan Lewis, the application's project manager from eBay.

eBay desktop has a funny history. Mike Potter was on a bus with Alan Lewis from eBay and the two got talking about the potential for a desktop-based eBay client. Mike referred Alan to Anthony Franco at EffectiveUI, and shortly thereafter EffectiveUI's A-Team (featuring Sean Christmann as Mr. T) partnered with eBay to make it happen. One million downloads later, it looks like we got it right.

What a great testament to the success of AIR and the power of user experience. eBay invested a lot of time, effort and money in user testing and getting user feedback, and as a result it continues to be one of the most successful applications I've ever been a part of. Congrats to eBay for investing in their users!
