Efflex: Designer effects for Flex

Efflex is a set of designer effects for Adobe Flex created by Stephen Downs (aka "Tink"). Stephen presented Efflex at the recent Flash on the Beach conference and has a background in building applications for the Flash platform. In this entry I'll talk a little bit about what Efflex has to offer and what sets it apart from other effects libraries.

Efflex is a set of designer effects for Adobe Flex created by Stephen Downs (aka "Tink"). Stephen presented Efflex at the recent Flash on the Beach conference and has a background in building applications for the Flash platform. Stephen was also recently featured at Flash on Tap earlier this month.

Efflex has a really interesting set of transitions that go beyond the normal fade and flip (it has those too.) Probably my favorite is the "MovieClipEffect", which Stephen demos as a sort of tv-turning-on animation on the Efflex example page. He's also implemented some really cool scroll and zoom effects that make your application appear to be embedded in the midst of a giant wall of similar applications.

One of the coolest things about Efflex is that Stephen open sourced it. To download the code, check out the Google code project here. You can also find a copy of Stephen's slides from Flash on the Beach here.

On a side note Flash on Tap got moved so I will now be out there in May, and I'll be at FiTC in Amsterdam in Feb.

The Fade is a little different from the normal ones you get with Flex as it enables you to show both children at the same time (something that the base class ViewStackEffect allows).

Thx for posting the correct link I will check it out.

Just the inline URL needs a fix. See '...animation on the Efflex example page' - this link points to -> http://www.efflex.org/FlexEffectsExample.html which is stale.
