Flash Catalyst Beta 1 [Top Branch Demo Part 1]

In this two part screencast I show some of the neat new features of the Flash Catalyst Beta 1 available on labs.adobe.com. I also demonstrate some good practices for preparing a file in Adobe Illustrator and how to keep yourself organized in Catalyst.

@Kyle I'm not sure what you're asking. FC doesn't have an export for web feature. It publishes a swf like Flash Pro or you can import the FXP into Flash Builder and compile it. There is not support for publishing for multiple screen resolutions from one file.

@Alan are you seeing anything? Is the player loading?

If you want a flex application that changes information on resize you will have to edit this in Flash Builder, currently Flash Catalyst doesn't give you relative-to-screen-size applications. These 100% components can be created though you'll have to work in Flash Builder.

I already discussed this problem with Mihai Corlan at the Adobe User Group Meeting in Holland. He's going to take a look into the matter (isn't really an issue or problem) and hopefully Adobe will add these features later on.

The currently best solution is to make a static version of your resizeable component and edit this in Flash Builder so it will do as you want it to.

Thats easy- you just make a component with two different states- one in the regular button state and the next with the dropdown box visible-

@tuur sorry I didn't see the comment - I think it was flagged as spam in my email because it came through twice.

For this version there isn't much you can do. I would keep looking in the next version. I don't see them leaving it out.

You could play with @annon 's suggestion, but it wouldn't work perfectly because you really need the dropdown portion to be handled by the popupWindowManager in Flex.

thanks for the introduction. I appreciate the explanations without the whiz-bang self-congratulation + marketing speak of the Adobe reps. Looking forward to the second video + any more you produce in the future.
