Poll Results: What do you build?

Last weeks poll question asked "What type of project do you spend most of your time building?". The results were spread out across all 15 choices with Multi-media (audio/video), Data visualization, and Content management taking the top three spots.

I was very surprised to see that there were only a few developers working on Mobile, Social networking, and Mash Ups. These three areas have been very high profile but yet still not ranking with our community. This could be a symptom of our poll as we only asked our community to choose one choice that makes up the majority of their day. Either way these were interesting results. If you would like to comment on why you voted the way you did and what your second choice would have been, please do so within this post. Thanks for taking part in our poll.

I would have to say that a large portion of the developers I talk with do mashup work on their own. Most companies have not allowed their developers to cross over into the world of mashups when it comes to external providers. I build mashups all the time for demonstration purposes and fun, but at work it is 'no' mashup.

There's a disconnect between what is commonly blogged about and what is applied in real life. It's not exciting or compelling to report on your run-of-the-mill microsite or web app (which makes sense!), so I am not that surprised you got the results you did.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my interest in social networking approaches zero. People can blog about social networking as much as they like, and I still won't read anything they write about. Social networking has been done to death and then some. It's common as mud, as dull as dishwater. Social networking doesn't need any help from me and anything I write would be lost in an endless sea of nothingness.

Mobile using flash or web... not interested. Not even slightly. Any mobile stuff I'm currently working on is done as native iPhone apps, not RIA's.

My second choice would have been Data Visualisation.
