Microsoft recently announced demos of two exciting Ruby on Rails developments. The first is a Silverlight application integrated with Ruby on Rails and the second is a demo of Microsoft's .NET Rails implementation, somewhat weirdly named "IronRuby." In this entry we'll discuss the announcement, Microsoft's implementation of Rails, and provide some resources for getting started in your own Rails education.

If you don't follow Lee Brimelow's blog, you should. Lee posted the full Flash Player 10 API on his blog yesterday and has had some great posts on FP10 and how to use it lately. Lee works for Adobe as a Platform Evangelist and seems to be just full of great developer information.

The Graz Institute of Technology in Austria demos a new touchless interface system called Brain Loop that responds to user thoughts. This entry includes a video of Brain Loop in action narrated by a creepy computerized voice that doesn't allay my fears that this thing will turn us all into cyborgs one day, but some of you are probably into that sort of thing.

Ryan Stewart just sent me some information on compiling for the Flashplayer 10 in Flex. You can read the full report here on Adobe's open source site. It involves getting the latest nightly build of Flex 3 and updating your compiler to use the new PlayerGlobal.swc - not too difficult.

Ted Patrick has a post up on his blog about a new feature in Flex 4 that will allow for state-specific variables to be nested in individual components. Ted claims that in Flex 3 and below, States have been too hard to use and edit outside of the "design view" (someone uses the design view?), so an effort has been made to simplify them. In this entry I'll discuss his solution and provide an alternative way to handle states.

Announced on Ryan Stewart's blog and the Adobe Pressroom this morning is Adobe Open Screen: an initiative that involves not only releasing the SWF, FLV and FLV4 file format specifications, but also removes licensing restrictions around the next version of the AIR and Flash player.
